Down the street, down the hill and into the river in less than 3 minutes from my house, walking.
I've been living on this street for three and a half years and I hardly ever take that walk.
Seemed like a good night for it.
Just up the hill it's hard to believe it's just a normal Yorkville neighborhood. Maybe a little thicker with trees than the usual. But from the vantage point of the river, it may as well not exist. You can't see or hear it.
Two smallies were caught in the first 100 feet and then not a hit.
I didn't know that was going to happen at the time. Two fish in a hundred feet told me it was going to be a good night of fishing. Instead, it turned out to be a good night to take a stroll down the river. The swallows were out skimming bugs off the surface of the river. Herons were perched along the shore staring into shallower water. A muskie was feeding off in the distance, making it's distinctive S shaped attack pattern on the surface of the river. Carp were jumping clear out of the water and slapping back down on their big sides.
A variety of different bug hatches were occurring leaving dimples on the water like their was a very light rain. A haze was lifting off the surface of the water giving everything off in the distance a blurry muted look. And as I walked into the setting sun it left streak of gold in the shallow riffles.
It definitely turned out to be a good night to take a stroll down the river.
Then there's the dark of the woods that have to be passed through to get home. I still haven't figured out how to capture that.

Wow Ken, it's hard to believe that is the first time in three plus years you have made that walk. I live in Schaumburg, and since getting hooked on the Fox this year have been driving 30-45 minutes 3-4 times a week to get to it. I tell my wife the next area I would like to live in is somewhere near the Fox STC and south. Why do you think it took you so long to do that?

Actually, I fish it maybe twice a year. I used to come down here quite a bit when I was living in Elmhurst and had to drive an hour, so now I don't bother.
Now I go explore stuff even further down stream or north and west of Plano.
Go figure.
