Change in Waterdog Journal Access

Like any other blog, random thoughts on random subjects. Might be interesting, or not. I probably won't be putting up much more here. I have other blogs. Only registered users can see this forum.

Change in Waterdog Journal Access

Post by Ken G »

I finally got tired of the lurkers.

In order to see 99% of The Waterdog Journal you need to be registered. After that you can be a lurker, but you'll be registered lurker.

There are people out there, one time friends, that now annoy the hell out of me. I'm tired of them going other places to make snide remarks. Or approaching current friends and telling them to no longer reference my reports.

This will stop that.

Besides, I don't want to become like the other sites. I want input and relevant comments and commentary. Not a picture of a guy holding a fish and 30 responses to that guy telling him . . . nice fish . . . love those bronzebacks . . . way to go.

Sorry if that's an insult to anyone, but the shit drives me nuts.

To see what I'm talking about regarding no more guest lurkers, log out. You won't see a whole hell of a lot till you log back in.

Other than that, no changes. Carry on. 8-)

Sounds like a very good idea Ken. The lurkers can get annoying. I hate knowing there's 5 unregistered people reading my thread and that they can't take the 5 minutes out of their busy day to register when they're already on the site reading anyways. People who use the information we post, yet feel no need to contribute or no need to register so as to remain anonymous have no business on the site ;)

I actually don't mind if they don't contribute. But they should register. I know a lot of guys too busy to be able to contribute much. But they rely on escaping for a few minutes a day reading the exploits of guys like you, Matt, Darth and others. Hell, that's what I do now most of the time.

Who the hell has time to go fishing?

Oh, wait. That would be you and smallmouthfisher. :D :D :D ;)

I didn't mean it that way when I said they shouldn't be allowed if they don't contribute. I probably shouldn't have included that word in my post, or better explained myself LOL. I should have just said they should be registered members, though. My definition of contribution would be someone merely hopping in a thread under their name and saying nice catch. I didn't mean they have to put reports and such up :D I'm speaking more towards the anonymous trolls who come here to spy on what other people are doing, obtain information, etc. I think you know some of the people I'm talking about Ken ;)

On the other hand, I haven't been fishing nearly as much as I would like to. Every time I plan on getting out I end up having to do something else, don't wake up, party too much the night before, etc. LOL.

You have such a rough life.

Never have to explain yourself to me. Even though it was funny to read your back pedaling. ;) ;)

I usually always get it.

C'mon Ken. If I can handle my "fan club" and still keep riling them up for whatever reasons, then a person like yourself with a higher stature can do it as well.

With this strategic plan, there is always the chance that these "jags" may use fake aliases or user names to continue trolling around. It's a win/lose.

Hey dammit! I resemble that remark! :P

I'm kidding! Despite the fact that I'm very thankful for the appreciation people show "DW" threads on occasion, I have to admit I REALLY like the access restrictions...keeps it more intimate=)

Feeling a bit disenchanted with message boards in general lately...maybe I should start saving that shit for a book :|

Get back to me after doing this for over 12 years. You just get tired. I can control the user names and fake aliases. That's in the rules and regulations. Besides, I know all the tricks. You can change your name, your email, your alias, but how you talk will always stay the same.

You, Andrew and anyone else that feels they have a way with words or impart info in an intelligent way should all think that way. I've always written up reports in Word documents before posting them. That way I have a record. If you're only record is on the forums, you can pretty much kiss it goodbye someday. It will just be gone.

Bob Long, Bob Maciulis, Dale Bowman and others have all bugged me about putting together books for many years now. It's time consuming, but I'm outlining and organizing things. Now I need time.

Hey thats how i get in!
I fake them out by using my real name as my alias!

Jab & weave-keep 'em guessing.
Works great except when i forget my username and password!
