Fox River 11/5 How not to hold a fish

Post by twade »

So here I was on the Fox River last night with SpecialEd. The water was very high, cold, and fast. Ed suggested an area and I was aware of a nice pool there - so we figured it would be a good place to get some fish. I was at the spot first and started to cast in and near the shore. The fish were jumping around me and I was pretty excited at the potential. Once Ed arrived we moved to more wadable spot. In butt deep water I started to cast and about 10-15 minutes into it fish on! Smallie we thought, but as I brought it in was in fact a walleye, my first walleye and he was an easy 15 inches.

I reeled in the fish and took my time to grab him. I went into my front pants pocket (under my waders mind you) to grab my camera. I took the camera out of a zip lock bag, turned it on showed Ed how to use it - all this time with the fish in my hand.

We are ready to take the photo and Ed is saying, no move your hand, hold like this so you can get the fish in the pic. I am not exactly sure how he needed me to hold to hold it. "That'll work" he says, and the fish and I are in the lens, I see the little light go on with that minor delay my cam gets before the shot and all of a sudden I get my pic with my first walleye.

1/16 th jig with a Berkeley gulp alive 4 inch minnow.

To say the least we laughed pretty hard at the picture, maybe Ed laughed a little harder than I since captured such a ridiculous look on my face.

It was the only fish caught on the Fox that night from us. Still nice to get out and the lack of wind made it comfortable.

Still LMAO when I see that pic. Talk about good timing on that shot.

I had fun last night. We need to get out and throw fish around like that more often.

Yeah, for as long as I was tinkering around that cam comes out he jumps. That is worst photo ever of me but you know it is worth the share. It was a nice hard laugh and with good company as always.

Once the bite dead down like it did we should of packed up and hit two brother for one... at least one.

Now why the hell didn't you say that last night?! Next time for sure. In fact, lets do the fly-fishing thing soon at that one spot, and finish up at T.B.'s afterwards.

I almost did, but when the ideal came to me it got late and you seemed ready to get home and relax, so I didn't say anything.

Nick.
The reaction is real. A fish that didn't move at all leaped for the water out of nowhere. Caught me off guard. Classic.

That is a flattering shot. Now I know who to look for on the river.

I think if I put that pic on my coffee mug at work no one will still it anymore. Who wants to walk around with that? The wife questions why I would put the worst photo ever of me on the forums. It's not match.com :)

I can see the spam e-mail two years from now forwarded to 1/2 america... oh boy. :o
