Been laying kind of low the last few weeks. Haven't felt much like writing anything down. Did get out squirrel hunting in the snow last weekend. It was beautiful. Had pretty much the whole place to myself. I wish they weren't closing it at noon on the weekends. I may have stayed out there all day.
Haven't sent out any Christmas cards this year. Barely sent anyone an email wishing them the same. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, no, it's not a depression thing and no, I'm not sour on the season. I'm enjoying the Christmas lights and snow and music.
I'm simply enjoying the option of not doing much of anything.
So, to all of you, here's my picture Christmas greeting. Thanks for sticking around here. I think next year I will be loading all my posts up with pictures. Maybe less words. Maybe.
Merry Christmas to all from me and my family.
Stay safe, have fun, go wander with the kids if you have any and by yourself if you don't.
Marseilles winter wonderland last weekend. I tracked bunnies through thick brush in an area I never went to before. The bunnies won. I can't go through that stuff. Bre'r Rabbit kept coming to mind. Walked up on 3 bedding deer. You should be able to see their indentations.
I've been through this next area numerous times. I like to think I know my way around.
I was starting to doubt my sense of direction. Everything was looking the same. There was no ground/sky line. It was all pretty much the same.
Years ago, in the snow, I was wandering around with the slight feeling I had no clue where I was going. I came across the foot prints of some other poor sap wandering around the woods. I thought, you're probably as lost as I am. Then I recognized the boot prints. They were mine. I did it again this time. Walked around in some kind of circle in an area that was further than I realized. Since I knew I was the only one out here, there was no sense of surprise at the boot prints. This time it was . . . shit, now which way.
Merry Christmas all.

You can never fish the same river twice, by the time you get back it's not the same river.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Ken.
I hope to read many more of your adventures next year. They seem to have this Mark Twain meets Ted Nugent quality you just can't get anywhere else.

I was just reading through "Kill it and Grill it" over the holiday too. Not kidding.Special Ed wrote:I hope to read many more of your adventures next year. They seem to have this Mark Twain meets Ted Nugent quality you just can't get anywhere else.
I think of it as the punk city kid goes fishing, hunting and wandering. Mix in inspiration from Henry Millers writing, some John Husar and Paul Quinnet, get some Battle of the Bands Ted stuff in my head, Sex Pistols, U2, old Who, Zeppelin, BAD and on and on.
No wonder I fish alone so much, it gets crowded between my ears.
Creek exploring next year Ed, ask Matt, I know good spots. I'll get you addicted.
My wife did a nice job on the decorations, always does. As my kids were getting ready to leave this morning, she was taking them down. Getting ready for her up coming surgery, she wants the house spotless.
I'm standing there like shouting through a megaphone . . . SANTA HAS LEFT THE BUILDING.
Happy New Year all in case I get busy with other things this week.
