It was a beautiful morning and my wife and I decided we would dress up and head into the woods with my 2 1/2 year old daughter on the hunt for an elusive little fungi that goes by the name Morel. We drove to one of our favorite spots and proceeded to wander about through the woods. We couldn't have asked for a nicer day for a stroll through the woods. Within 15 minutes of our arrival we found these tasty little morsels hiding amongst the forest floor.
We were out a little over an hour and managed 20+ good sized shrooms. They will be cooked up with steak dinner tonight!
We also saw this guy sunning himself on some gravel. Looks to me like a Western Fox Snake. He rattled his tail, but had no rattle, and didn't have the tell-tale pit between the eyes that all the rattlesnakes in Illinois have. From what I know the Fox Snake will rattle it's tail to vibrate against leaves and things near it to appear as a rattlesnake.

Re: May 3 On the Hunt for Fungi
Whenever I'm out fishing I'm looking for morels.
I'll never find one.
