Family Fishing

Post by Frank Macikas »

With the Dupage seeming like it will never get back to normal I have been taking my kids out fishing more lately. My daughter loves to fish but my son that is a different story. He get bored really quick even when catching fish but he does like running around and exploring at least for short periods of time. Took my son alone to the creek that runs next to downtown Oswego. I think its Waubonsie creek maybe? Started off by the parking lot on 25 and then moved down and parked by the foot bridge downtown. Didnt really get much fishing in but he loved the little pack and mini bluffs under the rr bridge he could climb on. Today I took both to a little hidden pond I found a couple years ago in Romeoville. My daughter hooked into a bass probably pushing 4lbs about 2 weeks ago there but the fight lasted about 30 seconds before it broke her off. Today we had great luck for the hour or so that we fished picked up about 5 bass the first 3 on the first 3 casts! All were on a 4" wacky rigged stick worm. The one of my daughter holding the fish alone was the first fish that I had and she wanted to hold it. I was really happy to hear that because she is now casting and setting hooks on floats pretty good and last year did really well fishing a wacky rig. Now Im easing her into lipping the fish and baiting her own hooks. The picture of us together she cast, hooked and brought about half way before she couldnt crank the handle anymore (think its time to invest in a better UL for her) and she handed it off to me. This one she was scared to lip but got right in there while my son snapped a pic with my phone. I wish I remembered my actual camera but the pics turned out ok. Had a great time and am so proud of her! :D

Waubonsie is a nice little creek. Got to hit it at the right time to catch anything. Very small windows of opportunity. I've hiked pretty far up stream, just watch it if you take the kids. Lots of poison ivy on the deer path.

Looks very fun.

it can get nutty and be stresfull but taking the time to get the kids to wet a line does have interior rewards.

my kids love fishing from the boat but I think they like simple fishing better.

last month while fishing a lake by our house they decided to cut their lines and tie it to a branch.
They proceeded to catch gills like huckfin with line, hook and bait.

sell all the gear!

nice pics Frank!
