Question

If I lived anywhere near it, I wouldn't bother fishing anywhere else.

Question

Post by ThunderStick »

The Kank is flowing at 2550 now. Assuming it doesnt get any higher as we get closer to the weekend, I'm wondering if that is a wadable flow. I'm thinking of hitting a couple holes midday on Saturday. Any insight greatly appreciated.

That depends on your level of experience and comfort level with the faster flow this river has. For the most part it is wadable. In the state park area algae is everywhere throughout the water column. You'll be picking it off almost every cast.
Think about going further upstream.
What a long, strange trip it still is .

Put a glide in your stride, a dip in your hip and come onto the mother ship .

Thanks Norm, I have a couple holes past the I-55 bridge that'll cough up some smallies and eyes. I try to hit those at least once each summer.

I got skunked last Saturday. Water was pushing pretty good-made it tough to stay on my feet when I got deeper than my sternum, visibility seemed low. Gave it an hour and a half with no results so I threw in the towel. My wet clothes stunk up the car pretty good, first time I noticed that from the Kank. Has there been a marked decline in water quality over the last year?

wow..too deep for me.

and i'm surprised no fish, i love that stretch below i-55 and the rr bridge.
I'll fish there when its beltline deep and the eddys are easy to find.

What did it look like 2 ft deeper?
was the structure easy to see and find?

Lots of big boulders out there i know i would find and be feet up within minutes.
See the world before its gone!

Judging from the bruises on my shins, I found plenty of rocks and ledges......

The chest deep water was in the middle of the run as I was making my way to the near shoreline. You're right though, I usually get at least a couple smallies there. Last year I picked up a couple eater size walleyes on a J-9 as well as the biggest smallie I've ever caught in Illinois, the thing was a beautiful football.
