How Do I Know These Things

And why does nobody ever listen.

Ed, thought you would see the humor in this.

Blue gills? Really? In the river? This time of year?

Sounds like bluegill looking baits would be a good idea. :)

Technically you're not supposed to seine bluegills. They're game fish, you can't do that with game fish.
We did it anyway because we didn't know it at the time. Would get amounts like in that picture out of the little ditch that runs through Glenwood forest preserve. Went there on Friday and the ditch was devoid of any bait fish. Strange.

We slayed them on baby gills all through October and November.

A fisheries biologist told me soon after that "didn't you know that bluegills migrate up the river and all it's creeks in the fall?"

I didn't know that.

So, yes. Bluegill patterns might be a good choice. :D

I haven't seen any bluegills in that crick for awhile Ken... I sure do remember how hard those BIG smallies would hit those gills in the fall. It was a bit different not knowing and learning hands on what was happening on the river in those days... I can't get motivated to get out and fish lately, a bit too cold, and not much going on from what I am seeing and hearing, and I will leave the crap plant alone till it really gets cold and I am REALLY getting cabin fever. Peace, Kevin

Once upon a time we didn't care. I have pictures to prove it. Our skin is getting thin.

"You know seining bluegills is illegal."

Uhhhhh, now I do.
