I had this idea for a blog, but I want interaction on it. Would you rather be a skillful angler or an artful one?
Is one vacant of the other? How would you define the two?
Calling a fly rodder a artful angler is easy by default. It also under minds other's.
Lets put it this way, some people can build a house by following instructions on paper, some do it off the top of their head.
Both are skillful, only one is artful. Even if that house falls.

Re: Skill or Art
I like to think I've combined the two.
A well honed skill becomes second nature to the person that has it.
Which is an art.
Graceful casting with a fly rod is an art, but if you don't have the skill to catch a fish with one, it's a waste. Same can be said of any fishing technique.

I think in most cases the two are combined...
I guess I am concerned about only the skillful. I wonder if they miss out on their surroundings.
If that makes sense.

I'll bet maybe 10 people read my stuff. Goes to show what fishermen want.
That's why I read Gray's Sporting Journal. Haven't read the other "fishing" crap magazines in over a decade.

Gray's is an excellent magazine. The first thing I turn to when I get it is the cooking/recipe column. That guy (Livingston??) is great wit. SOunds like he's a good cook too.

I'm doomed, doomed I tell you.TravisWade wrote:Never heard of it, I like what I see.
You'll like Gray's.
At some point I think a decision has to be made. Write hook and tackle articles, more experiential or not at all.
For all the attention you'll get, experiential and not at all are pretty much the same. I should know.

I could take photo's of tackle and not tell any one how to fish them... oh wait that is being done.
Why are you doomed?
