Lost a wheel barrow of respect for a handful of guys on there that have now shown their true colors. Elitist Assholes.
The smallmouth bass is an overgrown sunfish. They breed like rabbits in good quality water. Bucket fisherman will not fish the smallies out of the Fox. If anything the water quality of the river will diminish the spawning habitat or drastically affect the mortality of smallmouth fry.
I'm all for policing our own and keeping an eye out for poachers but the Nazi SS attitude is making me ill.

That's a tough thread, Ed. I pretty much said my peace and got out.

Re: This thread is driving me nuts
Is it possible that these dudes are just not great at fishing and that is why they are complaining? I get skunked on the river all the time, I've never blamed it on people taking all the fish.
Also, shouldn't the complaints and rage be directed at those not enforcing the regulations, not the ones breaking them? I mean, it bums me out to see people taking fish they shouldn't, but in the end if I don't confront them myself - something I am not comfortable doing - or contact the DNR/Forest Preserve police/etc then I've nothing to complain about. Stricter regulations that also aren't enforced won't do a goddamn thing either.
I guess what it boils down to is, unless Anonymous is sympathetic to your case, complaining about shit on the internet is just masturbation without the messy ending.

Re: This thread is driving me nuts
You suckered me into that one. First time there since asshole pissed me off.
Blah, blah, blah, got pretty boring pretty fast.
It's been tried. Thought I saw one guy that got it right. S. Elgin to North Aurora. They got rid of it when the DNR found more bigger fish outside of the C and R zone then in it. I've forgotten more than most of those guys will ever know.
I don't run into anyone where I go fishing. They should try other places.
Come end of August, I expect to have the whole river to myself and have endless strings of 50 fish days all the way into October, just like last year. Unless this low water has them all eating each other up. That happens, fish got to eat.
90 percent of the fish are caught by 10 percent of the fishermen.
If all you know is to fish near dams in urban areas, you're a moron.
Montgomery to Dayton dam. With the kayak chute in Yorkville, that's 40 miles of connected, unblocked river. A little exploring wouldn't kill them. There's a reason I know every every mile of wadeable river from Geneva all the way down and through, a bit, Yorkville. I put in the work. Fish are everywhere.
Then there's all the creeks I've fished...

I started to reply to that thread ,wrote a bit and deleted it... Just didn't feel like getting slammed. It just goes to show you how everyone has an opinion and the only one that matters is theirs. I have seen a lot of netting down my way as well as buckets of fish taken but I have come to the conclusion that the Dnr is broken under forced and though one guy said it is not economical to eat fish out of the river, I just think he may be lucky enough as most of us are never to be that hungry. I hope you all have a safe Fourth of July and try to realize and be Thankful we have the Freedom that we do today and urban rivers where we can still catch Smallmouth. Tomorrow is not promised to Anyone.

Re: This thread is driving me nuts
what good would more regs do if not enforced. all the gun laws Chicago has and the killing continues unabated. why, not enough enforcement and too many people who just don't give a damn about the law or their fellow man.
blow up the dams would be a great start.

What a long, strange trip it still is .

Be careful what you ask for. A good friend and the guy the that helped me with my canoe shop was a demo expert in the marines.Norm Minas wrote:blow up the dams would be a great start.
