Now you tell me, what other forum would let you leave a post with that headline, eh?
Got word today, Monday I start a job. Freelance at first and if I'm liked, conversion to full time gig.
Wish me luck, but just cause I can be a fishing prick and have no patience for fishing slugs, I'm a totally different person at work. What's not to like?
Would be the first full time job I've had since 1995.
Let someone else pay my insurance premiums for once.
No more tax bullshit, all taken care of.
No more self employment punishment tax of 13.5%.
I'll skip all the 401K and other retirement nonsense, can do a better job myself, if I feel like it.
Work day ends at 4:30 PM. Have to cross the East Branch, West Branch (or Main Stem depending on which way I go) and can be on the Fox in an hour or so.
Sounds good to me.
Plus, it's easy work and I already know I'll do well.
Just in case, keep your fingers crossed for me.

Good luck Ken! Remember, first impressions count so I recommend showing up your first day with waders on and gear in hand, that'll set the pace nicely

Sounds like that completely unique feeling of starting a new job. All excitement and anticipation with a little bit of anxiety thrown in.

I'll probably have to park my car at the far end of the lot, or put up with phone calls about a car out in the lot that smells like something died in it.
A little anxiety, it's been awhile since I've had to be in the same place at the same time on a consistent basis.

Enjoy the experience. If you find yourself stopping of at 5pm this spring near Oswego, give me a heads up.

I distinctly remember doing just that a few times last year and someone was perpetually busy.Special Ed wrote: If you find yourself stopping of at 5pm this spring near Oswego, give me a heads up.
Day one went well. They were shocked at how little direction I needed and just figured things out as I went. They're already talking long term so it might look good to go to a full time gig.
I need to get you on a creek, should be soon. Stopped at one yesterday, barren, no fish yet. I think that will change in two weeks. I'll let you know.

Freakin fantastic, someone recognized us old dudes know our stuff and can work rings around the pups while making it look easy.
What a long, strange trip it still is .

One day the stars will align and I'll have no excuse NOT to join you.
The early spring influx of run-off we're likely to have from all this snow is promising. I just hope the precipitation the rest of the year keeps the river up at a decent level. We've had so many dry years.
When those stars do align, I hope I remember how to fish...

I'm still the oldest in the group Norm, but not by much.Norm Minas wrote:Freakin fantastic, someone recognized us old dudes know our stuff and can work rings around the pups while making it look easy.
It was funny how they kept asking if I had any questions. Oh no, I'm fine, pretty easy really.
I did call and apologize for today. Warned her yesterday I might not make it. Getting there wasn't the issue, getting home in less than 3 hours was. And a half tank of gas. I have plans to make it all up to her and I"m good on my word. Us old guys are like that.
I'm making an initial foray this weekend Ed and expect nothing. I won't do the shit plant, too easy. Long term weather makes it look like the following weekend will be a bit better. By the end of the month, all hell should break loose. I'll be calling and taunting you if nothing else.
