Cleaned out the water behind the islands at SWK this morning since I overslept and missed the perch bite.

Lots of little guys and one I would call 15" but you'd call 18".

Only found fish in slack water, with rocks... Only had time to fish that last island, and with those two requirements there were 4 spots that held fish. Both Hula Grub and pearl twister produced.

The bug hatch was insane. They are still in my nose.

1450 at 10:45, it's leveling off. Hopefully temporary, but it could stay this way for awhile. That rate makes a lot of current breaks and slack water, so that's good.

I have no clue how I know what the river is going to do. 12 years of reading these gauges have given me another sense.

Will be doing the walk below my house this afternoon. Never a big producer, but usually good for a couple of 18 inch fish.

I was pretty much dead on with your last 18 inch fish, wasn't I.

I still prefer to err on the conservative side. I'm kind of like you in regards to the thought that any size fish is never disappointing. Heck a couple of those 8 to 10 inch fish this morning fought like hell. I even missed a bunch and had my first hook break off in I don't know how long. VMC jighead, bent on a snag and broke at the bend.

If plans with Cory blow out tomorrow night I'm going to hit the Rt. 34 bridge after work... boots should still be wet and if the river is below 1400, I can just walk across the river upstream of the bridge without much worry.

Water felt MUCH warmer today. Shorts under breathables is a nice change of pace.

Hit the stretch below my house this afternoon. Two taps, that's it. When I used to drive here from Elmhurst years ago I always did well. Like the stretch above Orchard on the south side, excellent looking water, no reason the fish shouldn't be there. They're just not.

Think I'm done till the weekend. Friday, Saturday for sure.

Water came up to 1540. I knew that was going to happen.
