Mission details:
April 29, 2012 – 11:30 am to 3:30pm
My latest obsession has been to catch a carp on the fly. Up until this morning, I had spent hours researching and tying flies, but not catching. I got in touch with a well known carp on the fly guy and put some of his advice to work.
Plus 7 largemouth, 1 sunfish, and two more carp that got away!

Don't forget Nick, you can just put a teaser up here and the link to your blog post. More traffic for you on the blog then, maybe. Learned that one from CB Fishes. He puts up a few teaser lines, a photo and the link to his post. I like that.
Speaking of which, I have to see if he wants to join the fun here.

Thanks, Rob!! I was just telling my wife that catching these fish on a fly I tied myself makes the whole thing 10 times better.
Thanks, Ken. I really should do that more....

Just read this on your blog Nick, good for you. Those fish can be finicky and a tough to fool.

Less time and trouble too. All different codes too between php and WP. Less work the better.
Warmer weather should bring on the bug hatches again, carp should start slurping the surface in the eddies. You'll have to try the sight fishing trick.

Slurpers were already up along the shores last couple times I was out. I'm tempted to build myself a fly rod just for this purpose.
Anyone with an extra reel feel generous? I might be able to negotiate a trade for a rod or some credit towards a build...

A couple of weeks ago, a buddy caught one on a cottonseed fly that I tied up for him. He noticed a large group of carp sucking them off the top and through the fly close to the pod and hooked up. It was one of the warmer days.
I also noticed a couple of top suckers yesterday but they seemed to be keying in on the riverbed more yesterday.

What the?! Did this finally push you over the edge?? It's about time. If you do build one, keep it around 6 or 7wt - the 8wt is bit too much if you ask me. A 6wt is next on my list....
