My cousin came in from Colorado to get his smallie fix. We hit the river and got a few small bass on rattlebaits and missed a couple on jigs. It soon became apparent that we needed to make a change for steadier action as he said he just wanted to catch a bunch of fish size wasn't an issue.
We switched to light action tackle grabbed some leeches and crawlers and did a crick crawl up Rock Creek.being from Co.lorado the canyon didn't overly impress him which was understandable. I told him this time of year the best we could expect was a few smallmouth under 12 inches, a bunch of mid sized rock bass, a bunch of sunfish, maybe a sucker or three and possibly a cat looking for a spawning area.
No cats or suckers but the rest of it lived up to what I expected. We skipped a bunch of nothing water and concentrated on the better stuff. It was pretty much non stop action and on light gear quite enjoyable. True no pigs but when you are catching the biggest fish that body of water has to offer than you just have to be happy. Very relaxing, nice to just kick back and fish easy and be successful. Shoot we ran out of bait just as it was time to leave, cool karma.
I think the last time I did the whole crick was when I met Ken and another guy when the Fox was over the sidewalks. That's been a while.
