The rain did nothing to the river level. Which means the stretch from the Monty crap plant down may still be tough fishing because of all the algae.

Bob Long was hitting areas up north, from Geneva to Elgin, and doing pretty good. No algae.

I did pretty good in a 100 yard stretch at Indian Trail Road on Sunday. No algae. I'll bet if you really comb the channels on either side of Gregory Island, you might do pretty well.

Was at a couple of creeks on Wednesday. Saw a lot of smallies swimming around and few that were interested. Wish I had live bait, everything eats live bait.

Not sure what I'm doing this weekend. A pond one day if I can crawl my ass out of bed. I hate the cold. Makes my bones feel even older than they are.

Bob Long got out on Thursday further north. He mentions a dam. I know which one, we'll leave it at that. You can figure it out.

25 landed, including three nice ones (16 inches maybe), in the fast water chutes up between the dam and the bridge. water cooling.

some on pearl spring grub. most on smoke with black fleck 3" kalin's twister. fishing strictly downstream. used Tenkara (Banzai!)

fish would not come up off bottom to take lure. lure had to be ticking bottom. nothing on streamer fly (even with maggots).

evening rain shut fish down. no hits in that rain.

downstream of bridge required very careful looking to see how bottom might be. much more featureless - but figured it out.

Marvelous to be wading in a river, fishing, as the sun and rain alternated. Catching fish. Figuring out the complexities of a new system.

Is this the dam I am thinking of? If so, I hit that the last time I was out on the Fox and with exception of a few dink largies, I didnt get anything. It was also loaded with the bucketeer crowd.

I will admit that I didnt fish down the center riffles though all the way to the bridge. I pretty much stayed right at the dam

He won't care if I mention it. That would be Geneva. Got another report from someone that lives along the west side between the bridges. He's still getting the occasional big fish right out in the middle of the river. There are spots on spots.

Day off today. Going to beat myself up dealing with the wind and go do some running and gunning.

Taking my son to Rend Lake for the weekend.
Water temps in the 60's, crappie bite taking off.

Unless he bombs a test this week. Then we'll be working in the yard!

Spent a beautiful weekend at Rend Lake with my son, a buddy and his son.
Guys weekend of fishing..
Caught crappies, not huge ones.
Lots of little action, even hooked a nice channel cat.

Water temp was really low for the time of year, it was down to 58.
Typically its still mid 60's in October.

We have gone in November and seen water temps in the mid-hi 50s.

Water clarity is low on Rend due to silt and mud, but it was like chocolate milk this past weekend.
Previous days of high winds and heavy rains churned up the lake like a blender.

The lake is also very low, probably near record elevations.

So when you aren't filling the livewell you adapt.
We tried new spots and marked new locations for springtime.
Also found a new lodging location where we can have a firepit and basically take over the whole location.
