Starting Salt Creek Exploration

My brother bought a house near the 25th st woods and this afternoon was my first chance to take a look around. From shore, I casted a small rebel craw and managed an aggressive creek chub. Image

I worked the shore down to about 31st street, but the bottom of the creek looks like it's all sand in that stretch. I'm thinking working up stream is going to be more productive, as it looks more rock bottomed. Either way, I know I'm going to be fishing this creek a bunch this year.

There are a surprising number of walleye, crappie, and bass in that creek.

I've seen guys do really well with the jig/twister and regular floating F7 Rapalas.

In the late 90's they stocked 40,000 smallies in the stretch starting at the Graue Mill dam on York Road. Excellent smallie fishing for a few years, then they all disappeared. Used to get pike, walleye, crappie, LM bass which are just carp in disguise. Even caught a white bass once. With the Hofmann dam gone, things could change dramatically.

Took a canoe trip from the dam to the mouth a long time ago. Chances of catching goldfish and koi up to two feet long are pretty good too.
