Fished all day at Hickory Creek in New Lenox, IL. 1 of the best outings of the year!!

We killed fish all day, lost count at 30:) We each had 10+ Smallies a few LM Bass (5 maybe) and countless Rock Bass. Here's 1 of the bigger Rock Bass.

And the BEAST! I still can believe this fish came from a creek! Caught on a mepps spinner, something like this.

We fished damn near 12 hours. Great water, nice wade and plenty of action. We'll be back!

Thanks Ken, what a surprise being only 20 miles from my house in Chicago?! Awesome water!! While out there it make me think of a milloin other factors to have a good day on the water?!? U guys ever get like that?? Anyway, that offer for coffee any morning still stands if u want to hit a creek out ur way sometime:)

What neighborhood in Chicago are you living in? I might have closer spots for you.

I'm still trying to set aside more than a couple of hours on a weekend to get out to some new spots. They need more time than the couple of hours I've been able to do.

But now, nuisance goose season starts on Monday and there's a blind off Orchard Road near Saw wee kee park where I can hunt. I've never done it this early and I'm determined to do it.

So little time.

I live in Mt. Greenwood 111th and Kedzie. If u have some else let me know 1 thing that gets my goat is the gas prices!! 50 bucks to go anywhere for a day of fishing! WTF??!! Me and my partner in crime (Dave) go halves on it, so it's not so bad but 2 times a week... it adds up:(

You live not far from my brother, he's on 94th and California.
You couldn't have picked a worse place to live if you want to get into fishing creeks and rivers. You're pretty much smack dab in the middle of nothing. So travelling a little is your only option. Or moving.

And yes, creeks are addictive once you start finding the good ones. So here's info on stuff I always wanted to get to, but I never get to the Joliet and surrounding area. By the way all this info is in the Links to Info forum.

You have to think of it this way, if Hickory Creek has fish, why not the creeks that feed into Hickory Creek.
The fish in all those creeks abandon them and head for the river at some point in the year. That would be the DesPlaines River, which connects to the Illinois River. Which means those two rivers hold those fish at some point. A little down stream from the mouth of the DesPlaines is the DuPage. Which has little creeks like the Lily Cache feeding into it in the Plainfield area.

There's a pretty good population of smallmouth bass above the Shorewood dam on the Dupe, but imagine whats coming up from the Illinois and getting blocked by the Shorewood dam. I've fished Shorewood once and Hammel Woods a couple of times and did well. But I also met a guy that caught a 21 inch smallie in Shorewood.

So, it sounds like you may have to piss away some money on gas and go do some exploring.
