Labor Day Fox Weekend Report

Got out to Orchard Road at sunrise Sunday for a couple of hours. Hit the upstream side of the bridge, haven't done that in a couple of years. Was more of a scouting thing looking for geese. There is a usable blind on the island just east of the bridge.
Will be checking this stretch again next week for geese. That will decide if I go kill a few the week after that. They're usually all over that area. But then, it's been an odd year.
Didn't see a single goose.
Did catch 18 smallies. All small again, but who cares. For the last day of August, the water was surprisingly clear for the Fox. A good 2 foot visibility. I think the high water into August kept the algae blooms from the chain and the pools above the dams from occurring. Moving water doesn’t get those kinds of blooms.
Saw about a half dozen guys working the downstream side of Orchard on Saturday. Saw a few more in downtown Oswego. That’s the first time I’ve seen anyone in the water on a weekend in almost 2 years. Except for dams of course. Veritable traffic jam of anglers at Yorkville. Even the usual mopes that fish from on top of the 47 bridge. Twenty three miles of open water between there and Dayton dam and they can’t figure out where else to go.
Hit Little Rock Creek Monday at sunrise in Plano. I’m getting too old to do the bush whacking I used to do. Caught a half dozen smallies and a couple of rock bass in an hour and a half and called it quits. Quite beautiful and you can bet no one went where I did.
Strange, the creek was only 60 degrees. That means it’s spring fed. I guess I’ll have to go find them.
