Nine miles up two Fox creeks.
First one has a lake that feeds into it. A few lakes actually. Hooked and lost 2 smallies. Saw 2 that easily were in the 16 inch and above class come shooting out from undercut banks. The lakes have smallies in them. It makes sense that the smallies are that far up the creek.









Second one has no lakes feeding into it. Both these creeks are spring fed and don't freeze over. Wondering if these fish are just hanging out in the deep holes. I know of a few holes that probably approach 10 feet deep.



Hooked 7 smallies, landed 4.





One of the missed hits was hard and making the drag hum. They only do that when they are 16 or better. I was bummed. Landed 3 and missed 2 more out of this same hole. Walked down stream, gave up. Was going to go home. Decided to hit the hole again for the heck of it. First cast to other side of creek, inches from undercut bank, hard hit, drag humming and land an 18 inch smallie.



These fish shouldn't be here this far up from the river so early.

Got more big creek chubs than I could count in the second creek. They were hitting like smallies.







Spent a fair amount of time wandering around sight seeing.

I got out for an hour and went to the river, Friday felt like wading so I wasn't fishing prime spots just an area that I knew I could move around a bit and not get into any trouble unless I was stupid enough to get close to the river channel. Not much too report, but water clarity was dingy . I didn't catch anything ... but I didn't think I would I had a plan to hit the other side of the river Toda,y but my wife's Mom is in the hospital and so there is much running back and forth , the fishing can take a backseat for awhile. I 'm thinking temp and clarity is the key in the creeks , eh ken!!! I have a personal day left and I am planning to take off a Tuesday later in the month and actually Catch some fish. I won't necessarily be in the creeks by that time... but I will be fishing gravel and current breaks off the channel. If it warms a bit the channel cats should start nailing crankbaits.

If these are a few of the creeks that you mentioned last week, you've got my attention. Only you would venture 9 miles up a creek this time of year and produce fish. Great pics - look forward to more.

Ken, I'm going out to fish on Saturday, and I usually fish Big Rock Creek in Plano. It appears that the fish are further north, however. Could you please, if possible, indicate where you access these two creeks? I'm also willing to fish with you on Saturday.

Looks like I'm going to have my daughter for the weekend, so no fishing for me.

On Sunday I was on the south end of Plano where I caught that one. The other area was Big Rock Quarry. You might want to avoid the quarry area itself, that sees the most anglers. Park in the first parking lot. Follow the path over the bridge. Cut through the woods on the east side till you get to a feeder creek that goes into Big Rock. The hike might suck a little. The feeder creek sometimes holds a few fish. I hiked way up that one time having a blast catching big creek chubs on a fly rod. I pretend they're ugly trout. Fish all the way back.

I thought of hitting the stretch through Plano, with this warmer weather, they just might be there. You might want to go try Somanauk Creek. Saunak Forest Preserve? off 34. From 34 down I did extremely well on white bass in April a couple of years ago. If you get around that big pool under the tracks, it would be worth hiking up stream.

Let me know how you do if you go. I'm testing my own little theory about these creeks. Probably worthless to everyone but me.
