I fished the Mazon from 6:00am – 11:00am with my Dad. River was at 174 CFS. The water is lower than normal for spring at this point. Clarity was basically as far as you wanted to see. It was easily at least 3 feet. I could stand waist deep in water and see every detail of the bottom where I was standing. Between the two of us we managed 4 fish. My Dad got two largemouth, and I got a fat chunker of a rockbass, and one smallie. One largemouth came on a baby bass pin’s minnow, and the other came on a blue, silver, and orange minnow bait. I got the rockbass on a 1/8oz unpainted jighead with a 3” bluegill Kalin’s lunker grub, and the smallie on a black/silver pin’s. It was a much slower day than last week in high water. We enjoyed the beautiful morning in the water, though. I think the cold nights the past week turned the fish off a bit, or they’re all out searching for somewhere to spawn and have vacated their deep holes. It’s time to go hunting for them up river a little ways I guess. We’ll be trying another access point that we know of next time upriver farther. See how that turns out…

Here's a few pics:

I think this is the biggest rockbass I've ever caught.

I think we're starting to hit the spawning lull. The fish have better things to do than eat.

On the Fox and its creeks they're just busy trying to stay out of the way of the all the carp and suckers.

Largemouth in rivers always surprise me. You just don't think it's going happen.
