So, it doesn't seem to so important to get out and fish today, muddy water, cool breezes and 52 degrees last I looked. Ken I laughed when I read how close you are to the water in Yorkville but you seldom fish it, I can relate. Fishing the Fox has lost its urgency for me as well. I have been getting less time to fish and it has caught up with me. The guiding business out of Batavia Bait when they were open, gave me an excuse for staying on the water and following the fish. I can guesstimate with the BEST of Them, but there is no better way then to be on the water as much as possible to know what is happening on the river. With that being said, the fish I have been catching are coming on the channel side of riffles and runs, mostly small males not too much going on in the shallows except for some carp rolling. I still don't fish much for smallies on the beds so I am not quite sure if they are still spawning and really don't care as long as they do. When I start catching channel cats on cranks and tails, I know the start of the summer fishing will be on us and hopefully there will be moretime to be allocated for FISHIN..

I just drove and fished in Oswego and Montgomery when I could have done just as bad down the hill from my house. Maybe this summer I'll concentrate on around here.
It was cold and windy and it rained on me twice and I got one quick release dink smallie and a nose hooked carp.
Should have stayed home, but I like the exercise.
Did come across the remnants of an Olds 88 along the bank of the river. Wasn't even recognizable as a car it was so torn up. The 88 was the give away. That and an old tub washing machine. The kind on wheels and round. I like finding that stuff.
I don't give much thought to spawning fish. From Montgomery to Yorkville is around 10 miles. That's 20 miles of shore. Throw in all the islands and you probably have another 10 miles of shore for fish to spawn along. If I hook a couple in a quarter mile stretch where virtually no one else goes, I'm sure I'm not having much of an over all impact.
An old guy told me once that the trick is to get out when the fishing is good, not just when it's a good time for you to go fishing.

HI, first post.
the weather was pretty lousy but the fishing was pretty good up in the c-ville/algonquin area, however,if i had to fish with the wind in my face i would have bagged it much earlier than i did. hood up, waders (+multiple layers) on and enough fish to keep the hands warm. when my feet got cold i just walked upstream to "explore". i definitely fish when i can and there is a bit of urgency since i am still trying to learn this river. much better day for me in the wind/slop then the bluebird day on sunday.

Saw your post on WCF. Too bad about the computer.
The next few days rain should screw things up. Might just get a bunch of stuff done around the house. I'm getting tired of going for long walks in the river. Don't even know whey I bring my rod anymore.

You guys stay up there and suffer while I have the Kankakee pretty much to myself.A friend and I fought through the cold and wind here on the Kankakee on Monday. It was nice and steady, changing areas three times over six hours catching20 fish.Nothing big,all 12 to 16 inches.
