I got my waders wet!
! yay !
Aurora Report 9/14:
Spent a couple hours walking downstream from the North end of Gregory Island in Aurora off Indian Trail Rd. on the West side, crossed over under the bridge, and fished the East channel to the end of the island. (per Ken G. advice)
I had two rods with me. New spinning combo: Daiwa Mike Iaconelli 6 8" Medium action paired with a brand new Abu Garcia Soron STX20, spooled with 6lb. test Trilene XL palomar'd to a 1/16th oz. long shank jighead rigged with a pearl grub. The other was my new (damn I am a tackle whore) E21 Carrot Gold 7' 10" Medium Light action casting rod rigged to a brand new Revo STX-HS-L, spooled with 10lb. Fireline, and a 10lb. Seaguar Red Label (original) Flourocarbon leader, palomar'd to a red craw Daiwa Peanut. I used them both in most spots. The Daiwa worked best on the East channel where there was deeper water.
I caught 2 dinks.....
All that fancy gear and I missed at least a dozen fish. That long shank jighead hung up a lot and I never stopped to sharpen my hook... Lots of hard hits, I would swing and pull the hook right out.
The Peanut has the worlds worst hooks on it I guess.... I had 7 good hits along the wall of the treatment plant, and couldn't connect on any of them.
Rusty I guess, or just spoiled?
But hey, I got out! I finally tore the tags off the waders I bought this Spring! I also found a really convenient area to fish between work and school.
Sounds like there is interest in getting a regular group going to the fox for Fall walleyes, so I think I will be back very soon.
! yay !
