I have my own at home that I deal with rather well....
Yet I deal with everyone else's so terribly.
When is it ok to smack the shit out of someone else's kids?

Ed,
You might cause thier self estemm to suffer if you did. Instead do something positive for them, give them lessons in swimming with cement overshoes.
If i had told my dad Mr So and So down the street had whacked me one, he would have whacked me one himself on the general principle I had done something to deserve it. Then he would have found out what i did and followup with a foot up my ass.

I believe in the Tribe raising the kids.
At my house I have corrected neighbors kids.
When they didn't like it i told them to go home.
And tell their Dad to come down and we'll talk about their crap behaviour.
they usually stay away for a while.
If a parent came down and had words with me about correcting their kids I'd say fine.
Keep them off my property.
One kid used to swear a lot and I'd warn then send him home.
He said his dad lets him say it.
I said great, go home and swear with your Dad.
Or use manners shut your mouth and hang out and have fun.
Its not an iron fist, more like a blanket of governorship...

in our Dads & sons group, the dads agreed to speak up anytime its needed.
The kids know any dad will correct them if needed.
If we let them get away with shit attitude we'll be nothing more than the tallest people in the house.

Amidst the council of wisemen, the council page benefits the greatest.
I need to talk with you about that Dads and Sons group Rob. Meant to get in this year, but life got in the way, or made me forget, or I'm getting older..... nah, it's one of the other ones.
