9/6/09
Matt and I got out for a little impromptu outing at the river this morning.
First fished in St. Charles from 730-930am. Had no bites, caught nothing.
Then headed up towards. S. Elgin to work a few of my areas (I was planning on fishing them anyways after fishing with Matt).
Again, we caught nothing but we attribute all of today's futility thanks to Darth because we don't think he left us any fish to catch from "The Darth Spot".
Threw cranks into the current, spinnerbaits and topwaters in slackwater with depth. Nothing.
Matt had to leave at 1 and I stayed and fished solo until 2pm.
It took us a while to figure out what the hell was going on over here as if some crane crew blatantly threw a couple tons of rocks into the river on purpose to make an island... But after some post-outing investigating, it was discovered that a road (Stearns Rd. extension) was being built along with another bike trail. I saw a time-lapse image of what it will all look like and from what I saw, those bridge pillars that will be here should attract a fish or two. Gotta love the man-made urban kind of fishing.
Lots of fishermen out, not much catching.

Then you're just fishing the wrong spots. Hit Saw wee kee today for a couple of hours. Picked up 10, missed another 10 at least.
Pearl.
There's a reason I used to give my September fishing classes in this stretch.

I seem to fish the wrong spots alot . I got two more days off in this long labor day weekend. Planing on going out wednesday morning. Im feeling discouraged with the lack of success on the fox but i will be trying once again. Maybe i will fish saw-wee-kee or anywhere else someone recommends. I've never been there before anywhere i should look out for?
You can never fish the same river twice, by the time you get back it's not the same river.

Let's talk tomorrow at some point. It's easy. Nothing to worry about.
Do a bit of research looking at aerial maps first. It's where Orchard Road crosses the river. Just down stream of Oswego.
If you don't catch anything, there's not much more I can do for you. I would bring some of Darth's magic crank baits too. You'll understand why when you're there. Twisters tight to shore though. I mean cast it practically on shore. Then Cranks in the other water. It can get to 4 feet deep where I'm going to send you. But not to worry. You'll always have time to back out of the deeper stuff.

Rock bottom oriented, deeper pools with some current, deeper pools without current, riffles and eddies, deeper shoreline wood, etc.
It was just an off day.

Doesn't matter. Some places are better than others at certain times of the year.AndrewR wrote:Nahhh. We were in the right places.

Les Arends, North Aurora, Indian Trail and Montgomery. Along with Saw wee kee of course.
You'll just have to trust me on this one.

Damn!! I wish I could have joined you guys...as it was I got stuck in Belvidere all weekend but I did make it out for a minute yesterday.
Based on yesterday and the last few outings and after looking at your pics..I hate to tell you this but they were about a block or two North of ya =)
P.S. Contrary to popular interwebz opinion....the areas between Algonquin Dam down to the Last bridge in St. Charles is "Darth's Spot"
