Suggestions or Ideas ????

Post by AndrewR »

Hey Ken,

I'm looking for some suggestions or possible ideas.

Me and the boys from my site will probably have a fishing outing sometime in June or July. Right now I'm assuming that about a dozen of us will go on this outing.

Wading a river seems to be the most logical choice since a lot of exploring can be done, and a lot of water can be fished, and some fish can be caught. The main thing is that we would like to meet at a centralized location so at the moment we're thinking Fox River... Maybe the Kankakee River State Park if we're up for some driving but right now it's probably someplace on the Fox and not in the middle of nowhere.

K3 State Park is a thought but the bad thing is that none of us have ever fished it, so we wouldn't know where to even start - but it's an idea.

What are some places on the Fox that are capable of fitting a dozen anglers, and can yield some half-decent fish? Right now I'm thinking of having this outing someplace in the middle Fox region - between Geneva and North Aurora. Someplace that doesn't get pounded by the crowds and someplace that allows for some peaceful fishing & camaraderie.

I've done some fishing in and around the Batavia area south of Funway and the old broken dam that used to be there. From what I remember, there's a lot of water over there and some cool looking spots and islands - in all the times I've fished there, I have never seen another person fishing anywhere near me, nor in sight. Since i have the experience of fishing there, this is the only idea for a meeting-place thus far.

But you're the one to ask - therefore I'm asking, and you can join us for this if your schedule allows and if you feel like hanging out with a bunch of college kids for a day. :)

Any suggestions or possible ideas?

thanks Ken.

Well, you had me interested until the hanging out with college kids thing. ;) ;)

Whenever you nail it down, make sure you post it here. Could be a fun day of fishing. I know Spiz and Tim would probably show up, at least they usually do.

The Kank could be tough if you don't know it or have someone to point out where not to go. The fishing is easy, but some of the holes and chutes will scare the crap out of you.

I know the stretch from the old dam behind Funway all the way down to Mill Creek like the back of my hand. Fished it hundreds of times. Spreading out a dozen guys would be easy. I suggest if you do this stretch to meet at Glenwood Forest Preserve and branch out from there. If a few want to drive to the other side and park at Les Arends, it would save a lot of walking.

I could give you more details as the date gets closer. I haven't had a chance to put together a color map of that area, but I do have it in black and white. Maybe this will get me motivated to work on it a little more.

Keep us informed.

Thank you Sir Ken. :)
I agree with you about the Kank.... So we'll skip that.

As we find a date and as it gets closer, I'll let you know what we all end up doing. Most likely sometime in late June, or in July.
