Re: Monday Dec. 14th
I likely won't fish past 8pm, unless the bite is worth staying for of course. (like that's gonna happen)
If I start before sun-down I will likely fish the outflow first.
The later it gets the better that East side sounds, the side Ken was talking about......
Montgomery is flowing at 2020 right now and has been slowly rising. Wonder what the influx of cold rising water does to the walleyes this time of the year?

The river was noticeably faster yesterday that is true. Note. The walk down is pretty slippery I didn't bite it, but easily could of, hold your rod in preparation of falling so you don't snap it. Again.
How is Sunday night? Or is that your day of catch up?

Re: Monday Dec. 14th
You guys are nuts, it's winter. I don't fish after dark, the boogie men you know.
John, just noticed your blog link.
I think it's important for everyone to jot down something after coming off the water. Mental health purposes.
Another fly rodder eh. Besides the journey below Dayton Dam, I'm going to have to figure out a way to do a creek adventure with fly rods only. That will be a tough one. May have to spread people out up and down a creek and meet back up to compare notes. Something like that.
I'm sorry, did I hijack this thread?
The river is at 2000. Wonder if it will go up with a Sunday/Monday thaw. Being just south of the flats at sunrise by the downed tree might be worth a try. From the edge of the flats to just beyone the tree. That whole area usually turns on with walleye, but this year it's been a blank.

Re: Monday Dec. 14th
Hijack away, I was just rambling anyway.
John, you should fish with me Monday. PM me sometime before 3pm Monday with a contact number and I will get you the info.
As for the stream fly-rodders trip:
You guys would benefit from more from a trip to Apple Valley with the fly rods. That's a large stream/small river and I bet it would play out nicely for a group or 3 or 4 fly fisherman leap-frogging each other for a couple miles of the main stretch.
One thing I know for sure is I am not going to take up fly-fishing. I am done getting new hobbies. I am still trying to find the time to put those blanks on my rod wrapper and use all that gudebrod and flex-coat thats been sitting in a box for 4 years!
When I was in California, I took a couple lessons from a guy that builds rods for a living. Saltydawg Custom Rods
My goal was to build a walleye jig stick for my Dad with some custom thread work and some really cool cork handles with custom inlays.
...... now who's the hijacker......

Re: Monday Dec. 14th
A couple of guys including myself camped up there from FHQ's website in September of 08. Typical campground, and very cheap since we stayed in the state park. River was a little low since it was late in the year and it really didn't see much rain for awhile. I would love to go up there for a weekend for some post spawn smallmouth. It's a real beautiful area with great Bass fishing. That would be one trip I'd move other obligations around to make. As for Monday Ed, I'm in. Weather shouldn't be no where near to how today is (which is upsetting because I was looking forward to getting out tonight after the doctor's). My fly gear is packed away for the winter unless I make a trip up to the Milwaukee/Racine area for some winter trout action, or head out to Northeastern Iowa for some stream trout. I'm still looking to get into my first IL walleye, and I think the Fox is the best place for it. No more Des Plaines. Seems like a waste of time to me.
