Millhurst Question and Details

Ken,isn't there a REAL dam or spillway down that way? I have stuck close to home the last 4 years but maybe this year I will branch out a bit. It is hard to get away though, plenty of good water down this way

I keep meaning to go up your way, but I'm a 2 minute walk to the river and when I do head north, I get distracted by all the water I pass on the way.

The Millhurst dam that Ed referred to is what started this post. It's just up stream from the mouth of this creek. Half the dam is gone and half is still there. You may remember the Death March, later renamed the Hemingwade by Jamie. It's still a hike in, but not as grueling.

We'll have to meet half way. Maybe south Aurora. Not sure if I ever showed you anything there. Haven't fished this one area since they took out a knee dam at North Avenue/Street? in 2006. I hear it's still good fishing.

Drove a ways down that area again this afternoon Ken. There is a canoe put-in near Rodgers and Whifield Rd. that looks like a decent place to start. Easy parking, easy access, some good looking current breaks......

I could do that spot in a 3 hr. session after work before class. Looks like about a 2 stoogie stretch to me. Soon as the water breaks 50 degrees I'll start working some of these area I have scouted.

I'm still in ice-mode though. 1 lb. test is just plain fun!

Shaw ga see, shau wee gee, who knows. Something like that. Just down stream on the west side.

The whole east side for almost 2 miles is now Millbrook North and South Forest Preserve.

Lots of hiking across land, but much easier than how it used to get done.

Then there's the whole stretch along Hoover Forest Preserve just up stream of Silver Springs.

I've been meaning to get to all of this for the past 3 years. But I keep getting distracted by creeks.

One mile up stream and one down from the bridge is now FP. Silver Springs almost connects with it to the northeast. Not sure what the FP's parking lot and trail plans are.

I haven't been on here in awhile and see what I've missed.

The whole area around milhurst is great for floating down the fox. With or with out a rod. You'll never know what you'll find. Makes me want to be bushwhack the fox area in winter. With the lack of trees you can find what in summer you are missing. I plan on doing a winter canoe trip one day. No rods. I hear I missing out by not doing so.

Load me up with a camera, a few arrows, and a bow, and I'd be glad to join ya.


I think a depth finder would be cool to have too. It'd be cool to locate a nice hole down there somewhere.

I have not done any where near the amount of winter exploring I usually do. Just like fishing, I don't like to go out much when it's below 32 degrees. And it's been that a lot this winter.

Go up to the lime stone house by the millhurst dam. Ask for permission to access their property. If it's the same owners, the guy is supposed to be a good guy. He was in construction. He offered the IDNR to take down the rest of dam with his own equipment and labor. They turned him down. The lady of the house likes red wine. Never did get her what I promised before circumstances dictated I quit going down there. I think I promised a case. But you may want to verify that.

We used to park out on the main road and had permission to walk down that drive and into the river.

Maybe you can get us parking closer to the river. Say it's a group that call themselves waterdogs, that way we can all access it.

Whatever works is what I always say. And if it doesn't work, then I always have a Plan B.
