2/21/10 Fox River Exploring

Post by Ken G »

The plan was to explore Millbrook North. When we got there, the field looked muddier than hell. Since we've already explored this area a year earlier, we opted to go explore Millbrook South. Was a little less muddy, but still a hell of a hike.

Yeah, okay. I don't think so. It's FP property.

And when I get the opportunity, I'll walk the straightest line between where I park and the river. I have a feeling it will just suck a bit when this stuff is 7 feet tall.

I run into this alot everywhere I wander to fish or hunt. You own a farm, you have woods along it's edges. There's a ravine or a bluff that heads down to the river. Good place to dump all the garbage.

I put my daughters through hell with my explorations, but they always want to go do more.

Leah became fascinated with how the trees were swallowing up the barbed wire and tried to get something interesting out of it.

I do believe I found the mouth of Ed's no name, no location creek that he was exploring.

We finished up at the old bridge that Leah likes to explore.

I first fished under this bridge about 10 years ago. Fished just up stream of it a few years ago. Have been planning on fishing from here up stream for two miles. Been planning that for around 5 years now. This year I'll have to get it done. The water was crystal clear. You could see the deep holes under the bridge and heading down stream. Just like I remembered them. Covering this area is going to be brutal. There is a lot of public property, but only so many access points that are easy. I have a feeling fishing those two miles are going to be one of the hardest things I've done. I won't take a canoe. Too easy to miss the details.

Will fill in more later, maybe.

Some good shots there Ken.

Millbrook area is on my hit list this year also.

There was a post somewhere recently about where everybody "planned" on fishing this year.

Here's mine:

Lakes AND Rivers

I need to check that creek out after a good rain this Spring.

That would be the ex . . .

My daughters are an odd combination of us both. Depending on who they are standing next to, depends on who gets the complement of who they take after.

Will probably skip fishing the DuPage this weekend. I want warmer weather. But I may go to Millbrook to explore Hollenback. Want to see if the FP killed all the beavers and tore out all their dams.

They didn't say they were going to do this, but they said they were going to do flood mitigation. The creek floods the field next to it. Because of the beaver dams. You can't move beavers, you have to trap them and kill them. At least that's what we had to do in Virginia. I'm curious.
