rt.47 bridge Yorkville
I had a little time to squeeze some fishing in today so I decided to stop and see Greg at Freemans sports and fish that area. I ended up going under the Bridge by Upper Crust. No luck I started out with a yellow jig and twister tail then I added a minow but nothing was hitting. I've had luck there in the past . It's a pretty good spot there with the rocks and the eddies they form but not today. Something bit the minows tail off. However I probably was using the wrong presentation. Any suggestions would be appreciated. There was a huge bull frog checking my bait out about a foot down , the thing was huge and I was suprised to see this early in the year. Has anybody wadded the area just past the Orchard rd. bridge going towards yorkville? It looks shallow by the banks , I 'm just not sure how it is in the middle. I usually go over to check out the different varieties of waterfowl that drop in there around this time of year. I have always enjoyed the beatiful scenery in that area. I might drag the kids out and hike that trail that runs along the river one of these days. I plan on maybe wading that area heading towards Yorkville also. Thanks guys.

I know the Orchard area like the back of my hand.
Even hunted that blind years ago. Montgomery to Yorkville is where I had my canoes running with my short lived canoe shop out of Montgomery.
That stretch along the blind all the way to the bridge can be pretty good. Fished it a lot last year to see how it changed from week to week.
Downstream you pretty much want to zig zag all over the river from Orchard down to the first big island. That little island you see first, fish all over that south shore.
At the first big island, go on the north side of the islands. South of the islands is low like you said. Fish all the way down till your across from the canoe launch. I've also gone another mile or so down from the launch. Start out on the north side till you get past a couple of islands, then it doesn't seem to matter. Nice depth everywhere.
Should take you a few years to cover all that.
Too bad about Yorkville. I live down stream a few blocks and hit that stretch further down all the time. It's 2 minutes from my house. It can be pretty good all the way down.

Thanks Ken ,I figured you had that area down pretty well. I do remember that was on your canoe route. I was getting some bait from your shop one day and you seemed to be busting your ass going back and forth picking up canoers. I think it was your wife that helped me. I was pretty excited when I found it was your bait shop. I told her that I followed your posts on CLF all the time. You turned me on to the St. Charles and Geneva area and that was back when I lived in Streamwood. I just remembered you fished that area hard and gave great reports. I remember that you would squeeze in fishing after work and during lunch. I think that was you. I used to think " man this guy is a crazy fishing addict!". At that time I considered Yorkville to far a drive. That was 7-8 years ago now I live here in the area.
