I have no doubt that there are fishermen out fishing the shores of the Fox. There may even be some tentatively wading in as far as they feel comfortable. But after the rain on Friday the river shot up to just over 3300 cubic feet per second and is now around 3200 cfs.
That means that the Fox has not flowed at a normal level, generally around 750 cfs, since December of 2007. The lowest I've seen it get this year has been about 1550 cfs and that lasted 12 hours.
Luckily the creeks come down to normal in about a week after it stops raining.
I have no doubt that those that bother are doing quite well on the river. I've pretty much given up on it for now and have been hitting the creeks.
Was out berry picking on Saturday with the kids at the forest preserve on the creek where I did quite well the week before. I knew I would have a couple of hours to kill on Sunday, so went and checked the creek.
It was a foot higher and flowing mud with about an inch of visibility.
So much for that.
Instead, on Sunday I hung out with my soon to be college bound daughter. Talked of life, college, future . . . gave lots of advice to which she would usually just laugh and shake her head in disbelief. I'm probably not the best to talk to about some of these things. My views tend to be of the liberal anarchist fascist leaning, and what I have done in the past, though not technically illegal, does stretch the meaning of the term legal just a little.
Makes the conversations in my head interesting at least.
Either way, a couple of hours with her was time much better spent than dealing with high muddy water anywhere.
