Ken Who?

Post by Ken G »

12 hour days, 6 days a week.

I don't even have time to check out my own site anymore.

Seems like I only visit every few days. Keep leaving posts, I'll play catch up and it keeps me dreaming if I get to read about fishing.

Things you learn in the cable industry . . .

Most people live like pigs.
People make shrines out of their televisions.
People watch way too much television.
If you're paying extra money for HDTV, you're better off flushing the money down the toilet. Makes no difference.
White people suck. Blacks, Mexicans, Indies and any other People Of Color are just overall better people to deal with.

People ask all the time how to use certain features. I tell them I don't watch television and show them where the help guides are, figure it out yourself if it's that important to you . . . I say it nicer than that of course, but I'm sure the attitude comes across.

Now I have another book to write some day at least.

Some day there will be a national catastrophe. The Feds will tell us that for the next 60 days, we are on our own. They can't help us. I predict that within that 60 days, 40 to 60 million people in the U.S. will die. I'm seeing far too many that will be totally useless and lost and simply will not make it.

Depressing thought really.

Comcast's largest contractor. A company called ACT. Not that bad, until you have a bad day and everything is going wrong. I already understood networks and computers and that's all the cable industry really is. The two guys that trained me make over $1200 a week. Sometimes a lot more. I'll settle for making a living.

Trailer park, TV in bedroom doesn't work. "That TV work, we put there."

Dude, it's a porch. You have sheets for walls. I'm not putting this on a porch. It's outside.

"No, no, no, it's inside."

It's a fucking porch, with sheets . . .

I drove a service truck for 1o years. No need to tell me how bad it is. Just be glad you don't have any work in the city..... :?

Do they provide tools, or do you use your own? I may have a few things that would make your life easier. Earplugs and hillbilly teeth for one..... :D

Unfortunately the public at large feels the cable companies are money grubbing assholes. (yours truly included) Knowing that, you will likely encounter an unlimited supply of cheap, inconsiderate, buttheads.

My experiences have taught me a few things:

If you are having someone over to install or fix something, be HOME! Seems easy enough, but damn if you are not going to be there, call or something..... duh

Have the area around the item to be fixed or installed clear of debris, furniture, mold/spores/fungi, pets and their feces, human waste of any kind, and other human beings.

A sales person sells, an installer installs, and customer service gets paid to listen to your bullshit, so save it for them.

If you want to see what the guy(s) is/are doing at your house ask if they mind first, and if you plan on looking over their shoulder, make sure you brushed your teeth recently...... pe-yew! (stupid mouth-breathers)

Offer the guy(s) something to eat/drink, always. I don't care if it's freezing out, at least offer the guy(s) a glass/cup/bottle of water. They are a guest in your house, and will act like one if treated like one.

Last but not least, if the guy(s) did a good job, tell him so and say "Thank You." Hell, if you have 30 seconds of time to spare, call the office and let them know. Nobody loves working at a "thankless job"

I feel for ya Ken, trust me I do.

People in general can just be down right rude or even lazy. I am a union plumber and out of work right now re-couping from back surgury so I'm home more than usual. On trash pick up day we are allowed 2 trash cans. I had 2 cans with a bag on top of the can. I hear the truck go by so I go out to grab the cans and I see one bag still there off to the side. I just went across the street and put it in my neighbors can and waited for the guy to come down that side. He finally had gotten there and I said," How are you doing sir? I noticed you left one bag on my drive way and I'm just wondering why?" He responded with " My rule is, that if the can is light and people stack bags on top I'll take it. If the can is too heavy and there is a bag above the top of the can , I'll throw the bag off and leave it." I just said ," Ok, I was just a little curious because this was never a problem before." Why do we pay taxes? I did not lose any respect for garabage men. I'm not going to judge them based on one lazy JAAAAAAG OFF, but come on dude. appreciate the fact your working and you do have job and it's year round and pays well. There are alot of people out of work. Growing up in Desplaines you could throw your neighbors house in the garabage and the guys were happy as hell when you gave them a 6-pack of beer. Funny because back in those days they would down the beer right there and shoot the shit with you. My point is there are assholes in every class and every race.

i found that the trash guys are poeple too.
Too many leave 10 cans that are overloaded.
True their rule is 2 cans.

If I have extra I make sure I can try to help, or label a box heavy.
When I have a huge clean out, I help him load it all and/or give a tip.

They appreciate it.

now i can have 20 cans and they take everything.
And the lids will be placed on the side.

got neighbors who complain they take all my stuff but sometimes leave theirs...

I say...tip at holidays or anytime ya have lots and big stuff..

it will equal the extra service ya want.

I loaded up the driveway one time, they collected, then i chased the guy down.
Gave him a $10 and said come back i have a fridge.
He came back and helped me toss it into his bin.

you'd be surprised what they take...
;)

I totally respect garabage men as I mentioned above. I have respect for any job out there, hell I'm a plumber, not the fanciest job and I've been up to my ears in shit. All I'm saying is for all the trouble the guy went through deciding if the bag on top made a typical can of garabage to heavy or not to heavy and taking the bag and tossing it to the right onto my lawn instead of to the left into his truck just makes him a miserable prick. With all of those decisions that he had to make he could have been three houses down. Bag was in his hand he decided to throw it onto my lawn instead of his truck. There has also been numerous times on our street where this guy or guys will throw the cans back on the drive way with out totally emptying them spilling crap all over. I don't think I'm asking too much but I should know that there plenty of grown up men that have their balls permanently placed in their wives purse and cannot have them back so they go to work in a miserable mood and take out their problems on everybody else.

Turn off the electricity for a month and watch civilization crumble. A majority of people are so far removed from the realities of natural life that they wouldnt have a clue in how to fend for themselves and families in a real crisis. I like to think my family could hack it but I'm not sure I have enough shot gun shells to keep away the starving raving hordes of idiots who spent their time getting fat watching reality TV.
