HO Friggin HO HO

And you can do that here. Off fishing topic and off the wall subjects and plain bitch sessions. Sometimes you just need to have an outlet. Only registered users can see this forum.

They took down the position I applied for from the website.

I didn't get a call or an email, so I'm assuming a decision was made that's not in my favor. OR, as my optimistic wife said, maybe they'll call on Monday and just don't want anymore applications.

Not holding my breath.

It is weird out there. Too many not working at their intended careers and just taking whatever is available. Underemployed I think they call that. But, it's not unemployed so no one looks at that data. What? You got a job!

Not the same.

Another job I was hoping for is put off till February. Not holding my breath on that one either. Put off once, put off again. That's how the graphics industry goes.

I'll think of something, always do. Age makes the decision more difficult. Still up against the age factor no matter what.

Was explaining all this to my 86 year old uncle over Christmas . . . shit, he said, at 54 you're in your prime.

Some of us know that, but apparently not those that are doing the hiring.

Shit, forgot to pick up beer on the way home. Treating myself to a 12 pack of Sam Adams.

Happy New Year to me indeed.

And to all of you.

Slacker -That is my word of day. As I haven't been on to see this. Not fun to hear such things Ken.

I saw this the other day. I don't have the honed skills to make it worth my wild. Wish I did. Maybe you do - no, you do.

It would be "something" at least. You are already doing it. So it isn't "work".

I used quotes on purpose.

I dig that fire place Ken. I see a cigar, rocking chair and a room full with ambient sounds of the fire pit crackling that are over taken by story telling - coffee/coco as well.

If I had everything on my mind.. that is where I would sit.

Thanks Travis. They say they've been around since 2007. Amazing what you don't hear about if you don't bother looking.

Brings up the other OBN. Awful close comparison.

Something seems odd here.

Was checking it out. In all of the categories, the posts jump from July 2008 to December 2010. Nobody made a post in all that time? It's like it didn't exist. Truly odd. I think I'll get in touch with the other OBN before I decide anything.

I did not go into depth with the site.

I once read in a Field and Stream that no one wants to be an outdoors write, editor etc and that they are needed. What people be are pro fishermen. Why not write? You get all the quirks of the out doors, fishing, travelling etc with a full steady paycheck.

I like steady paychecks.

I also have an idea that my wife swears that I can get rich off... maybe I should listen to her. I just need a graphic artist and some one that thinks the business of being offensive can create revenue.

How offensive?

I sent that on to Joe and Rebecca of the other OBN pointing out the similarity and asking if they knew anything about it. Joe's looking into possible name conflicts. After two years of sitting idle, he finds it interesting that the first posts showed up a week after they went public. They did Google searches on OBN when they were getting set up and it never showed up.

I think the idea of pro fishermen is nonsense. I've had 2 opportunities to show supposed pro's how to catch more fish. I knew the water and the pressure the fish were under, they didn't.

Problem with my writing has been that it's very location specific. Unless Dale, Don Dz, Sarley, Jackson or a couple of others around here die off, my audience is limited. That didn't sound right did it. I don't WANT them to die off, I'm just sayin' . . .

Reading blurbs of short stories by fly fishermen, a lot is location specific. If you write to the point where the reader can vision were you are .. location means crap. Story over rides.

How offensive? Offensive enough where I will not post it. But workable to a point where my wife hates my potty mouth humor but at the some thinks I am on to something...
