Know any spots in Kendall to find some gobblers? The permit is $15 and I'm tempted to apply.

Sitting on my desktop are pictures I took the other day, March 2nd to be exact. I count 14 of them in the picture, but those are the ones that were in the picture frame. There were more. A post waiting to go up if I get motivated to write it. I used to have them wander through my neighborhood, but some of my neighbors think it's OK to let their dogs roam free.

Pellets will be taking care of that soon.

So, yes, I know where they are hanging out. Some might be coming off public land, actually, I'm sure of it. Chances of getting on the surrounding private land are slim to none.

Looked it up while in the middle of typing this. Hunter Fact Sheet doesn't mention turkey hunting. If you want to do the legwork with landowners, that's up to you, I'll show you where. I have a feeling the land owners get bombarded. I'll be cruising later, I'll stop and check the public access.

I'm not allowed to take the ones by my house, they are pets....... so I'm told.

There is a slight chance I know a land owner, just not sure about the turkeys there. We'll talk.

Let me know what you can find out. I'd love to be able to spend a quiet morning in the woods with you, as long as you'd be able to keep your mouth shut that long.

Anyway, if we have a spot to sit I will do the legwork on the permit and weapon for myself. I remember you saying you have a recurve right? If you need arrows, or equipment I might be able to help there too.

You can have them. I'd probably keep a few for the kids, but I don't tie flies and I can't think of any other use for them.

I don't have the financial resources to be doing anything at the moment.

I have bows and arrows. The arrows are all mismatched, I find them at Silver Springs, but could work. Found two more today. I have two recurves to choose from, one more traditional than the other, but both should work. I also have a single shot 12 gauge if you have your foid card. Think I have shells, but you might need something bigger. You only need one shot.

Three closest sites are Midewin, Momence wetlands and Kankakee River State Park. You can get all that on the IDNR site. Norm might be seeing them where he fishes.

Out near Apple River are quite a few more. Saw lots of turkey out that way many years ago.

I have a friend that might be willing to pass along more info. I think he heads out toward the Apple. I'll find out.

I have to get a March smallie for dinner. Last time I took that one the first week of April caused a bit of a problem. How was I supposed to know. I don't read regs.

John, when I was wandering around Silver Springs today I stopped to check out the deer that were dumped over the winter, 5 or 6 of them. Deer hair everywhere. Almost scooped up a bunch, but I don't tie flies. Could probably fill a pretty big bag with it all.

Nah, I'll pass this time. Going fishing doesn't cost me anything. Hard to justify spending the cash to go hunting at the moment. Once the wife wins the Lotto, everything will be much better...
