With one car out of commission, I couldn't stay out as long as I wanted. Besides, it got cold out there.
Was going to do the shit plant hike, but someone was parked there and there was rod in the car. So much for that.
Fished a creek instead that I haven't touched in two years, then fished the mouth. Can't remember the last time I did that.
Caught 10 and this time lost track of the ones missed, but it was more than 10. Two heavy ones got off when they ran out into the river.
Fish the mud line, but there's a small channel between the shore and the line. They kind of liked that.
Also, a pipe with flowing water. Small little spot, but fish stacked up in it.
Forgot the camera so no pictures.
I should have brought my guiding clients here. Screw that scenic crap and the potential for fish THAT WEREN'T AROUND.
Go urban. And there's nothing like a bunch of kids standing around on shore telling you "that's a big fish."

That creek is just as close to me as the main river.
I should walk that stretch after the next rain. That little spinner I just built would be fun in there.

Re: Fishing in Ed's neighborhood
We need rain to bring the smallies further up. Right now, lots of suckers. It still is only April. If I recall correctly, April is okay in the creeks, but May is better. September is the best.
Got 5 in the creek, all small more or less. 4 in a very short stretch. Only one further up. I've done better.
The mouth is where it was nuts. Lots of short hits, not convinced they were smallies.

Water was real low when I walked through the mouth area the day I fished the wrong side of the bridge.
I noticed a nice deep (would have been deep if water was in it) hole on the upstream side of the lonely tree mini island. I bet that is where most of your short hits came from.
New baits to toss Sunday and on a new rod. I think JD is with me but he'll be flinging new flys on a new fly rod.

When you say it like that it sounds as if my flies can't catch fish. I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't plan on catching anything.Special Ed wrote:New baits to toss Sunday and on a new rod. I think JD is with me but he'll be flinging new flys on a new fly rod.

They are as unproven as the new baits I'm trying.Johndyers34 wrote:When you say it like that it sounds as if my flies can't catch fish. Lets fix that though!

Sounds good to me. Just let me know when and where.

Re: Fishing in Ed's neighborhood
Walk out to the little island. The main current seam is on the far end of it.
You should also see the line between the clear creek and muddier Fox.
You should also be standing on a sand bar. In the 2005 drought, I got to memorize this whole area cause I had to drag canoes over it all the time.
Start walking down stream on the sand bar and edge of the clear water. As you go down, there will be a slight channel between you and shore. That channel goes for some distance down.
They're on the seam and in that channel. Make long casts down stream.
As you go further down and the current seam is near shore, you'll see a pipe putting out water. It's a small area, it held a bunch of fish.
Now if it rains, the creek comes up and turns to mud, you're fucked. Go fish pond.
Post Script: just checked. All those days of rain initially called for are all gone. Ain't nothin' gonna happen. If it were warmer, it would be perfect. Wonder if we're in for a repeat of 2005, driest year in recorded history. This is how it started.
