Spent the day with a guy named Ron at the Special Olympics in Lake Forest and Deerfield. Our day started at 6:30 AM to head up there and ended at 5 PM.
Ron's a funny guy, smart, sarcastic and flirts with anything that looks like a woman.
He's a bit withered up and has other problems. Has been in a wheelchair since he was 5. Was told he wouldn't live past the age of 12.
He's 42. He sees every day as a blessing.
I've had the opportunity to be around him numerous times. There are a few others like him that I've grown to really like. Horribly debilitating physical problems and never a word of complaint. They get out and do what they can with the things they enjoy doing within their limitations, again, never complaining.
Pinpointed this as to why I'm taking a hiatus from writing and reading. Working with and watching these people teaches you a lesson. Did this years ago while working the Kid Fishing program with Bob Long. Working with kids that continue to push ahead, laugh, joke about their issues. Hard to describe.
Not sure I've learned everything I need from the lessons they're teaching me, but I'm working on it.

I feel ya.
I bet Ron would kick Cranky Bob's ass in a heartbeat.
I need to get my kids out fishing soon before I lose all respect for myself as their mentor in the aquatic world.

Re: Another Day
Ron would think Cranky is as big of an asshole as I do and yes, you need to get your kids out. Wait till it cools down and go to the secret ponds. Problem is, that will spoil them into thinking all fishing will be like that.
I think I got under Cranky's skin with that last one, eh? I'm not going back there anymore, done with WCF and other for good this time, but I did send him a PM as a response. Didn't want to clutter up that post anymore.
I thought I was being very polite.......

I asked you not to call me Kenny.
I told you why.
You continue to do it.
In my adult world where I'm probably old enough to be your father that makes you a worthless fuck and an asshole.
There is no passive aggressiveness here. You are an asshole. I'll call you that here and to your face if we ever have the misfortune to meet.
Got that, asshole?
You'll be that till you die and I'll refer to you as that till that happens.

There are a few people that post on that board that I enjoy reading, but after that C.A.S.T. Gangster thread that was entirely unnecessary, and those other internet toughguy posts, it's just not worth it. I don't have hobbies where other people irritate the shit out of me. Really defeats the purpose.

Rather, most of the trolls out there are people who would be just as happy to troll you in real life... if you ever spoke to them in real life.

Re: Another Day
Give yourself a full e-ban from time to time.
it cleans the mind!
plus you start to forget the sites that you visit all to often.
yep, gotta step away and look at the sunset while fishing.
in the big scale none of the e-fishing bullshit matters.
make the time and cherish what ya got!
i don't fish as much as i used to before kids or when they were very little.
I power fish for myself when that need is itching.
But with the boys its more fun time, we even moved into different sports like archery and tennis.
never thought i'd be using my fishing boat to go tubing, but its the fun that matters..
when they get a little older they can pull me!

Edy try Prairie creek by i55, its has a nice (small) waterfall about 150yds above the river.
my kids get bored fishing then wind up swimming in the 3ft deep pool and chasing water critters..
we'll probably wade there friday afternoon.
like the Fox its an easy flow with shallow ripples.
For me the Kank is closer than the Fox.

Re: Another Day
John, good article, thanks for passing that along. Because of my guiding and writing I always thought it important to stay active on a couple of the forums. That thought has passed.
I should have put what I wrote in public, I phrased it well I think, but enough was enough...but that doesn't mean someone else can't copy and paste it....
As for being called Kenny, it's mainly for family, my parents and siblings in particular. I let some friends get away with it cause it fits their personality. Paul, Rob, Ed and a few others, no problem.
Total strangers on the internet that I think are assholes? Not going to happen.
Once in a meeting a coworker called me Kenny. I've been told by my sister that I have this look that basically says I'm going to kill you. I'm not aware of it and can't see it in a mirror. Apparently I shot that look at her when she said Kenny. She apologized afterward and said she thought I was going to jump over the table and strangle her. I never twitched a muscle other than in my face, but I guess that said enough.
