Hit the Creek Again on Saturday...

Post by Ken G »

This time further upstream.

Helgies got ignored by all but one.

Twisters of a couple of colors got completely ignored.

Put on a YUM crayfish that as far as I can tell, they don't even make anymore. I have a bag left, I think.

All hell broke loose. Even the skinniest water was holding fish up to 14 inches. Stopped paying attention at 30, but missed twice as many. Amazing how even a 4 inch smallie will inhale a 3 inch crayfish.

The low water in the creeks has actually been good for future bass. They haven't got blown out by high water. Hundreds of little guys, from this year on up, are all over the place.

Today went and checked out the other creek that's at the lowest level I've ever seen. It's barely flowing. Walked about a half mile of it taking pictures. Normal 20 foot wide riffles of ankle deep water were narrowed down to a trickle about 3 feet wide. I could have walked across them in flip-flops and not got my feet wet.

Big long pools still had a bit of depth and filled with little fish, with the occasional bigger one spotted. Absolutely no flow. The pools were covered in duck weed that wasn't even moving. That's how ponds behave. The little bit of rain we got near here must have missed it completely. Pig fishermen left shit on the shore like usual. Very unusual for here. Luckily there's nothing to catch in the creek with the shit they were using. Hopefully they won't be back.

Next week a bamboo fly rod arrives that I get to test out. I'll have to get back out on the river, a pond or two and maybe the creek with more water in it. I have the rod for almost two weeks of playing. Should be interesting.

It's a cool opportunity...

I'm excited to get ahold of that baby once you are done! A grand changing of hands event should take place.

I never got that email from you about this, btw....

Thought I sent it to the one through your blog. Have another one from here, gmail.

Good business is one email address, two at the most. Both using your name@website, if you have one.

Shoot me a PM if you want. Reliable email address and phone number. Should be getting the rod this week. Might be willing to give it up around the 13th. That should give me enough time to play. I get off work at 5, maybe meet up at Graue Mill?

Let me know what you think.
