Creeks.
Mmmmmm.
Nuff said.
At 5280 cfs I can't imagine that anyone but Darth would try to step into the Fox.
I've done it and it is just not fun when you get it wrong.
Was going to try to get down to Rock Creek on the Kank for the first time in I think 5 years. That would be nothing short of amazing. But then I got to thinking.
Within 15 minutes of my house I can hit 4 different creeks. Another one that is tiny, but I imagine something will be in the mouth. And there are a half dozen ravine creeks, much like the one at Sullivan Road I used to hit at high water. This thing would attract smallies like you wouldn't believe. Why wouldn't these.
Within 30 minutes are 2 more creeks that I know are excellent. I'm on to some new access points on these, but they haven't been verified yet.
SO, I think I'll save myself the hour 15 minute drive and just flip a coin when I head out this weekend.
Actually, the pecking order is Little Rock, Big Rock and Hollenback. Hollenback is the long shot. I think it might only be good for the first quarter mile in from the mouth, but there was an awful lot of good looking small water all the way up to the big beaver dam. I can't imagine anything getting past that. The other areas I want to fish on the other two creeks are miles inland. No guarantee anything made it that far up yet.
I guess there's only one way to find out.

You're right about it sucking if you get it wrong, but some areas are just too tempting.. I'll most likely be reaching for that apple in the morning.
When your time is limited, i'd abort the hour drive and save the gas as well.
I remember fishing 5 days a week, waders always in the car. I havent smelled fox river waders, festering in the hot car all day, in years. I dont miss it either.
Good luck this weekend.

Like my dad always told us . . . if you kill yourself doing such a stupid thing, don't come crying to me.
In Geneva, on the west side at the south end of the county complex is a ditch.
I used to walk that ditch to the mouth when the water was this high.
At the mouth, to the left, was a huge log jam. It did a great job of deflecting the water, you could walk a good 30 feet out into the river, and I would stand there picking off 5 or 6 different species off the wood. Been awhile since I did that. I wonder if the jam is gone.
The creeks are calling. I think I'll be about 5 miles inland. Will be interesting if the smallies are there.
I expect reports, no excuses.
