06-07 Dupage River Plainfield

East and West Branches plus the main stem, not much to look at sometimes, but an astonishing fishery.

06-07 Dupage River Plainfield

Post by pezdek1 »

Got out to the Duper with my brother and dad yesterday. We fished from 4pm-7pm. I went 4 for 6 with 3 smallies and one big surprise carp :) Thought I hooked into the state record smallie when I hooked the carp, but after he didnt jump and just ran down river for the first 3 or 4 minutes of the fight I knew it wasn't a smallie... Muscled him closer to me and saw he was a carp. The 2 smallies I lost were both much nicer than the one pictured, nothing I could do with the first one, set the hook and he came straight up out of the water like a rocket about 50 yards out on a long cast. The second one I lost was my own fault, was trying not to horse the fish and keep it from jumping and shaking the lure like the first one and had it about 5 feet from me when a big clump of grass floated by and caught the fish/lure and that was it, he was gone. My brother got one gigantic rock bass that we didn't get a pic of and my dad got I believe 1 little smallie and a dip in the water that filled his waders up. Glad it was warm out yesterday! All my fish came on a Mann's Baby 1- in brown crawdad color. My brother's rockbass came on basically the same thing, was a diff brand, but shallow diving crank in brown crawdad color. These Duper smallies are absolutely gorgeous!!! They're so dark!!! Oh... and the weeds on the Duper are absolutely horrible right now. They were fouling the crank up after about 5 cranks on the reel so the fishing was a little tough and frustrating :( Here's the pics.

Nice report, ive only fished the Dupage a couple times. Need to make a point to fish it more this year.
You can never fish the same river twice, by the time you get back it's not the same river.
