Aurora/North Avenue

Post by Ken G »

Hey Ed, wanted to remind you about this. Nicor was working working on the North Avenue stretch last year when the floods blew out their coffer dam and took all their stuff with it. Who knows what's under there, so watch your step.

A friend has fished it and says he hasn't run into anything. Here's some before and after stuff.

My friend claims that area in front of the island, the lift I guess, was holding a lot of fish over the summer. Someplace to start. Be careful if you go wading where the old dam was. I haven't been back there since they took it out so have no idea what's it's like to walk around up there. I do hear that once the dam came out, it revealed some nice looking water up by the railroad tracks.

There really is too much water to cover. Like that stretch further up in Aurora. Haven't been back there in 8 years I think.

Not sure what my plans are yet. Promised an uncle I'd finish painting his fence, but he didn't bother bringing it up till we were into the almost the coldest October on record. Can't paint in the cold, so may as well fish.

Thanks Ken, I was actually going over all those posts from long ago this afternoon. Most of them helped me decide where to go, well that and my memories of wet-wading there as a kid and finding fish all over the pilons, current breaks, and eddies that form around the shoreline.

After reading about the clean-up and flood, I decided it was time to get my feet wet in this area again. I'm hoping I can find a good place to park early Sunday, I don't think the park gate will be open as early as I want to get in there.

I'll be sure to let you know how I do out there.

On the west side there is a parking lot on the north side of North Ave. I think the business is closed down now, but I used to park there on weekends with never a problem. You'll see it.

That's where I parked to take those pictures. You can park there any time. Part of it is a park I think.
