Still Alive and Well
The smallie bite was good yesterday down Batavia Way, Walked a bit before I found them and wading in the current for this old man wasn't as fun as I remembered it in the past but caught bunches in similar spots. The largest going 16 1/2 and the rest being 15 and a couple of 14's and the usual 10 to 12 inch fish. Had a nice walleye on for a bit but he wasn't hooked just swimming with the bait All the fish came on current seams close to slack water, I'm thinking the higher water has pushed the bait toward shore and the predators are following. Yesterday was a great day to be out , today I don't plan to be out as long... Going to bunker down the hatches and get the garage ready for winter. good Luck nad be careful if your wading the water is a bit nipply .

I was going to try to get out for the sunset fish, but leaf blowing duties at my parents and my uncles took till 4 PM. And you can't burn them in Chicago. Would have made the whole process faster.
I'm assuming you were using minnows. Wouldn't expect anything else.
Were you in town or further south of town?
Ever since they removed that dam, I think I've only fished there twice. Was in Batavia a couple of weeks ago and stopped at the creek at Glenwood. That place was reliable for seining bait till it froze over. Even then I would break holes and still get bait.
Not a single thing swimming to be found. I have never seen it do that at any time of the year. Don't have a clue what that means or why. It was like it was sterilized.
Next year we get out. It's been too long and you need to teach me how to hook fish since you're doing a better job at it.

Ken , It will be my pleasure to get out with you and fish like the good old days. If it wasn't for you I doubt if I would have ever considered guiding on the Fox for Batavia bait and tackle. You told me I could do it if I could figure out how to make it work and it wasn't too long after that I moved to the Fox valley.Today, I was using minnows large fatheads on a 1/32 tinsel jig. The light jig keeps the minnows out of the leaves but gets the bait down enough for the smallies to bite. It sure was nice to see the 2 eagles flying and deer walking about down in glennwood. I don't know what is up but the creek has not held many minnows this year. The small bluegills were missing also this fall , makes you wonder what is going on but it has been a strange year. kevin
