Like any other blog, random thoughts on random subjects. Might be interesting, or not. I probably won't be putting up much more here. I have other blogs. Only registered users can see this forum.

Outdoors Shows

Post by Ken G »

The only outdoors show I bothered with this year was the one at Tinley Park High School. I mainly go to touch base with people I haven't seen for awhile.

And my oldest daughter likes it. She likes to touch base too. Especially with her buddy Chauncey. She's 18 now, but around 10 years ago Chauncey gave her a mini mite in a bag. I jokingly had him autograph it for her. She still has it and reminds him of that every year. He thinks it might be worth about a dime now, signature and all.

I heard from friends that all the shows seemed to be smaller this year. I know I was looking forward to running into Steve Palmisano at the Henry's booth, only it wasn't there. A reliable source says they didn't do any shows this year. I noticed a few others were missing too. Sign of the times I believe.

Even when I had the time and money the interest in traveling and spending either to catch fish seemed kind of silly unless it was damn near free. And since I fish light, 99.99 percent of the gear and tackle out there is pretty much useless to me.

The three main speakers all talked about local lake fishing or fishing the Illinois. With all the smaller rivers around here, far outnumbering lakes, I didn't bother going to any of them.

I was standing out front of the school waiting for the shuttle bus. The last speakers talk had just ended and guys were leaving. A couple of guys walked by and one was saying "I thought he was going to talk more about local rivers and streams." Nobody does that anymore I chimed in.

Can't blame them. Virtually all of the websites have people waiting in the wings to lambast anyone that even dares to mention a location.

Except for me and this site. I don't see any reason not to pass on all that I know.

Know one's going to go there anyway. ;) ;)
