Most hunters know that spring turkey season is just a month away.
Most hunters have also pretty much given up hunting till some time late this year.
But if you have the attitude of hunting is hunting and there's gotta be a recipe out there for this thing, then hunting's not over yet.
Woodchuck, or groundhog season doesn't end till March 31st.
I thought I had another 2 weeks because I've been wanting to do this for years, but crow season ends today, February 28th, at sunset. Which is too bad because the crows that hang out around my house have been raiding the squirrel nests and attacking all the other birds. I really wanted to get rid of a few.
You can trap beaver till March 31st. Not really hunting and you need a special permit, but I've seen beaver pelts on websites going for an average of about $125 each.
I can't remember where I read this, but pigeons, sparrows and starlings can be hunted year round. I've got a .410 and a lot of sparrows around. The Apple River State Park has pigeons living in some of the bluffs. I would imagine I could go there.
And finally, you can hunt coyote and skunk year round. Apparently there is still a market for their pelts.
And I have a skunk recipe or two.
